In December 2014 I was contacted by the UK publishing company Pavilion Books who are well known for their "Then and Now" series which have sold over 4 millions copies and covered over 100 cities around the world. They were doing a "Then and Now" book for Auckland and wanted me to take the "Now" photos.
I started work on the project at the beginning of 2015. I took over 70 "Now" photos to match the historical photos provided to me. Most locations were in central Auckland, but some took a little longer to get to, including ferry trips to Tiritiri Matangi and Kawau islands.
It was a privilege to work on the book and it gave me a greater appreciation of my adoptive city. Jenny Haworth, the author, was wonderful to work with and gave me great advice on how to capture some of the "Now" shots for locations that had vastly different landscapes 100 years on.
The Auckland Then and Now book was released in bookstores on November 2016.
Jenny Haworth gives a fascinating and insightful interview to Radio NZ about the book. Click to have a listen.
